License Checkout Time Out Issues with Autodesk Products

July 1, 2025 Ryan Wunderlich

Issue:

You open the product and get an error box stating the license checkout timeout occurred and have to close the product without being able to do anything in the product.

Causes:
This problem is related to the Autodesk Desktop Licensing system

Solution:
This is a fairly common issue with the 2020 and newer software, and the fix is generally pretty painless. See the link below for information on how to correct that issue:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Error-License-checkout-timed-out-What-do-you-want-to-do-in-AutoCAD-2020.html

Basically, first step is to install the licensing service update:
First thing to do is go here:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AdskLicensing\ and run the Uninstall.exe in that folder first (to remove all versions),

Once the folder is empty, then start with the information below to reinstall a fresh copy of the updated Autodesk Licensing service.

Install the following two (2) files in the order listed.  I recommend right mouse clicking on each file and selecting Properties, and make sure to unblock the file before running it.

Autodesk Licensing Service - 15.5.0.13374 installer (current version as of 10JUN2025):

Autodesk Licensing Service download

Single Sign On Component-V14.1.3-2020.x (current version as of 10JUN2025):

Autodesk Single Sign On Component (AdSSO) update for 2020 - 2023 product versions for Windows users

If the last file (AdSSO.msi) says it's installed, then uninstall it and reinstall a fresh copy.

If you are on 2024 or newer products, make sure to install the Identity Manager update as well:
Identity Manager 1.0 1.15.3 English-US 64-Bit (current version as of 10JUN2025):
Autodesk Identity Manager Update

If you are unsure if these are current, you can check your Autodesk Account for the latest versions:

https://resources.imaginit.com/support-blog/where-to-find-and-download-product-updates-from-your-autodesk-account

Finally, to ensure that all the parts are correct, verify that you have the following C++ updates installed via Control Panel => Programs and Features:

If you do not ahve either 2015-2019 or 2015-2022 installed (and have only the 2017 version installed), then do the following:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads

Go to this section "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022" and download these updates:
x64: vc_redist.x64.exe
and
x86: vc_redist.x86.exe

Install these two files, then reboot your system and verify that the license checkout timeout is resolved.
