Revit Crashes When Opening Manage Links on Some Workstations

September 30, 2026 Jeremy Smith

Applies to:  Revit 2025 and older

Issue:

On some workstations, Revit crashes unexpectedly without warning when a user opens the Manage Links window.  In some cases, a crash report (CER) is generated.

Cause(s):

  • Conflict with one or more 3rd-party add-ins and/or
  • Recently updated WebView2 component

Solution/Workaround:

  • Try disabling 3rd-party add-ins and test whether the behavior occurs.  If the behavior does not occur, enable each of the add-ins one at a time, testing each time until the behavior reoccurs to narrow down which of the add-ins may be causing the conflict.  If you determine a 3rd-party add-in is causing the problem, check to see if there is an update available for the add-in, or try uninstalling/reinstalling the add-in to see if this resolves the issue.
  • If the issue is not related to a 3rd-party add-in, the problem may be caused by an updated version of WebView2 (released March 2026).  This update introduced a conflict between CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework) used by Revit and WebView2, which is used by some add-ins.  Note:  Revit 2026 does not use CEF, so there should be no conflict in this version or higher.   If the issue is related to the version of WebView2, you can revert to a previous version.  See the following article for the steps to revert the version of WebView2:  Force Use of Previous WebView2 Version for Revit
