Civil 3D Locking Up in Certain Projects

March 11, 2019 Ryan Wunderlich

Issue:

Your Civil 3D is fine in some Projects and is locking up in others

Causes:
This problem can be due to many things. One of the major ones we came across is you have an XREF (with a surface displayed) and a Data Reference of the same surface in your drawing.  This causes Civil 3D to run into circular type references when OSNAP is turned on, as both sets of contours displayed have the same elevations and locations, which causes Civil 3D to struggle to determine which contour to use.

Solution:
There are three solutions:
1. Freeze the layers of the contours in the XREF
2. Turn off Running OSNAPS
3. Turn the Surface Display Style to No Display for the Data Referenced Surface
