Vault Add-in is missing from new Outlook for Windows

March 20, 2024 Shawn Heator

Issue:
New Windows 11 computers are automatically equipped with the New Outlook for Windows instead of a standalone copy of Outlook. For clients using Autodesk Vault, this new version of Outlook does not display the Vault Add-in. The standalone version of Outlook, from either Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office, is currently the only version of Outlook that supports the Vault Add-in.
Causes:
The Vault Add-in is a COM Add-in. The new Outlook for Windows does not support COM Add-in’s.

Solution:
Only Microsoft Outlook 2016 and Microsoft Outlook 2019 are supported with the current versions of Autodesk Vault (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).

As of the date this is written, Autodesk does not have a Vault web add-in available for the new Outlook for Windows.

The standalone version of Microsoft Office is currently available with Microsoft 365. The only solution to use the Vault Add-in for Outlook is to use a standalone installation of Microsoft Outlook instead of the new Outlook for Windows.
