Revit Issue: “SQLLocalDB instance is malfunctioning.”

Issue:
Revit hangs when opening the project file. The journal file includes the following lines:

DBG_WARN: SQLLocalDB instance is malfunctioning.

  'Expect crashes when using steel functionalities in Revit.

  ' Please stop the current Revit session !

Causes:
The SQL database is corrupted or not functioning properly.

Solution:
Perform a clean reinstallation of SQL Server 2014 LocalDB Express. Follow these steps:

  1. Open Control Panel:

 

    • Navigate to the Control Panel on your computer.
  1. Uninstall SQL Server 2014 LocalDB Express:
    • Go to "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel.
    • Find and uninstall "SQL Server 2014 LocalDB Express".
  2. Clear the %temp% folder:
    • Open File Explorer.
    • Type %temp% in the address bar and press Enter.
    • Delete all files in the %temp% folder and skip deletion when there is pop up.
  3. Download SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 3 (SP3) Express:
  4. Select and download the "ENU\x64\SqlLocalDB.msi":
    • On the download page, select the "ENU\x64\SqlLocalDB.msi" file.
    • Click on the download button to save it to your computer.
  5. Run the downloaded SQL LocalDB:
    • Navigate to the location where you downloaded the "SqlLocalDB.msi" file.
    • Double-click on the file to start the installation process.
    • Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
