Add CFD 2019 or 2021 to Fusion 360

December 7, 2021 Joanna Gryszka

Issue:

The CFD 2019 or CFD 2021 Add-In icons are missing in Fusion 360 after installing CFD Premium or Ultimate.

In the Simulation workspace when simplifying a model, the Tools ribbon doesn’t show and/or the CFD 2019/2021 icons are missing.

The Tools Ribbon should show here after Simplify Solid and Simplify Surface:

The Tools Ribbon and the CFD 2019 or CFD 2021 icons are missing:

Causes:

The CFD Add-In isn’t automatically loading into Fusion 360 and needs to be added manually.

The installer files don’t always get created and need to be added by the user.

Fusion 360 Add-ins or scripts can be added, run, or stopped using the Scripts and Add-Ins command.

Note: The Tools Ribbon with the Simulate in CFD icons will only display in a model with geometry.

Solution:

Copy the CFD CAD Connection Add-Ins files to Fusion 360

CFD 2019

Copy the contents of the Fusion add-in launcher folder in the CFD 2019 installation location:

  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\CFD 2019\Launchers\Fusion

To your Fusion 360 AddIns folder:

Note: for clarity I created a CFD 2019 folder to store the CFD 2019 Add-In files in

  • C:\Users\YOU_USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\API\AddIns

CFD 2021

Copy the contents of the Fusion add-in launcher folder in the CFD 2021 installation location in:

  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\CFD 2021\Launchers\Fusion

To your Fusion 360 AddIns folder:

Note: for clarity I created a CFD 2021 folder to store the CFD 2021 Add-In files in

  • C:\Users\YOU_USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\API\AddIns

Add the CFD 2019 or 2021 add-in under Scripts and Add-Ins:

In Fusion 360 go to the Tools ribbon, Add-Ins panel and select Script and Add-Ons:

CFD 2019

  • Select the  ‘Click on + to add existing script’ button.

  • Browse to your Fusion 360 Add-Ins folder and select the CFD_2019  folder in:
    • C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\API\AddIns\CFD2019\CFD_Fusion360.bundle\CFD_2019

CFD 2021

  • Select the   ‘Click in + to add existing script’ button.

  • Browse to your Fusion 360 Add-Ins folder and select the CFD_Fusion360.bundle folder in :
    • C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\API\AddIns\CFD2021\CFD_Fusion360.bundle\

  • Select Run to load the Add-In right-away.
  • Leave the ‘Run on Startup’ option to load the Add-In every time you launch Fusion 360
