A blue region is displayed in AutoCAD drawings

September 29, 2025 Shlomo Okoye

Issue:

After opening a drawing in AutoCAD based products, a blue region is visible in the model space.

The blue region may also appear when switching to a new visual style, causing on-screen commands/tools to become unresponsive in the model space and viewports (This is very likely to happen if a regen process is interrupted).

It is not possible to select or interact with the blue region.

Cause:

A 3rd party tool, ArcGIS for AutoCAD was used to define a spatial limit for web feature layers that are added to the current drawing.
The blue region is the project area defined by this tool.

Solution:

Turn off the visibility of the project area boundary polygon using the option below:

    1. Type the command ESRI_PROJECTAREA
    2. Type V to open visibility options, the type F to set it to False.

See more command options here - Esri_ProjectArea—ArcGIS for AutoCAD | Documentation
