Inventor 2024 ‘Failed to initialize a component for accessing AutoCAD Files. Please try again. Error 16’

Issue:

After installing Inventor 2024, the program won’t launch with the following error ‘Failed to initialize a component for accessing AutoCAD files.  Please try again.  Error 16.’ 

Causes:

An installation problem similar to this Inventor Read-Only launch error:

Solution:

Try a clean uninstall of Inventor 2024

Uninstall Inventor 2024:

  • From Windows Control Panel
  • From the Uninstaller in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Uninstallers\Autodesk Inventor Professional 2024 - English\AdskUninstallHelper.exe.

Delete the following folders:

  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2024
  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Inventor 2024
  • C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2024
  • %localappdata%\Autodesk\Inventor 2024
  • %appdata%\Autodesk\Inventor 2024

And Windows registry keys if present:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion28.0
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wow6432Node\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion28.0 
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software \Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion28.0 
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion28.0

Reinstall Inventor 2024 from a full download in your Autodesk Account or Custom Install.

If Inventor 2024 fails to launch perform a clean uninstall of ALL Autodesk products. Reinstall Inventor 2024.
