The default method to download and install Autodesk applications uses a “bootstrap” installation process. This process begins installing the software while it is still downloading. It is prone to cause a corrupt install or will fail to install the application. Due to the streaming nature of the default installation process and subsequent issues, we recommend fully downloading the installation files to your computer to install your Autodesk applications. The instructions below provide steps to fully download the installation files from the updated Autodesk account interface using the “Download” option.
Solution:
Open a web browser and log into your Autodesk account at https://manage.autodesk.com.
Go to the All Products and Services section to find the software you want to install.
Choose the software you want to install and select View Details. This example will provide steps to download AutoCAD 2023.
Select the version of your desired application and then select the down arrow to use the “Download” option.
Alternately, you can change to the Download method from the AutoCAD box located in the All Products and Services section.
Selecting the Download option will automatically start the download of several files. There are two files in this AutoCAD 2023 example. Some other applications may have more or less files required to install the application.
A dialog box may appear asking to Allow or Block multiple download files. Select Allow.
If you do not see all files downloading, and a dialog box to Allow or Block does not appear, then check your web browser for any notifications that a process was blocked.
Then select Always allow.
In this example, two files for AutoCAD 2023 are shown downloading at the bottom of the web browser.
Once both files are completely downloaded, run ONLY part 1 denoted by 001_002 . (Some applications may have more than two files downloaded but you still only need to run part 1)
Running part 1 will start an extraction of all parts into a single folder. All files, or parts, must reside in the same folder for the extraction to start and complete. The default extraction location is C:\Autodesk but it’s possible to change to a different location.
The extraction of all parts will begin.
The extraction will create a single folder that has all the necessary information to install the Autodesk application. This folder can also be moved to an external drive or network location for storage. It can also be utilized by other users that need to install the software on their computers.
The application will automatically begin to install after the extraction is complete. Follow the prompts to install the software on your computer. Or you may cancel the installation if your goal is only to download the installation files.
