Installing Revit Project and Family Templates

April 1, 2025 Gregory Lee

Issue:
Revit doesn’t have Project and Family templates.

Causes:
During the Revit installation, the Project and Family templates did not get installed.

Solution:
There are several options to resolve this issue:

Option 1: Copy from Another Installation

If someone in your office has the templates installed, you can copy and paste them into your Revit template folders.

Paths for the template folders:

  • Family Templates: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT ####\Family Templates
  • Project Templates: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT ####\Templates

Note: Replace #### with the year/version of Revit you are using.

Option 2: Copy from an Older Version

If you have template files from an older version of Revit, you can copy and paste them into the new version’s template folders. After copying, you will need to upgrade all files to match the new version.

Option 3: Download from Autodesk

You can download the Revit content library from Autodesk’s website. For Revit 2024, search for "Autodesk Revit 2024 Content" and download the necessary files.

Option 4: Use the Installation Package

Download Revit installation package file from Autodesk Account Page (Autodesk Account). Run the installation file to unpackage the downloaded file.

Use the custom install option and ensure that the appropriate contents is selected before creating the custom installation package.

Steps:

1.     Locate the RCLC folder inside the x64 folder (the location may vary).

2.     Locate RCLC.adix file from RCLC folder.

3.     Rename the RCLC.adix file extension to zip.

4.     Extract the RCLC.zip.

5.     Navigate to VFS\Common%20AppData\Autodesk\RCLC.

6.     Copy the template folder to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2025\Templates.

By following these options, you should be able to restore the missing Project and Family templates in Revit.
