CFD Solver license could not be checked out using Flex Tokens

April 12, 2024 Shawn Heator

Issue:
When running CFD using Flex Tokens, an error appears when trying to run an analysis. The error states “The Solver license could not be checked out.

When checking the License Manager, only the CFD Design Study Environment license is visible. The license does not show CFD Ultimate or display the CFD Advanced or CFD Motion license.

Causes:
The cause of the problem is that CFD does not have the required licensed to run an analysis. The CFD Design Study Environment license is a user interface license. It allows a user to open CFD and existing results but does not allow a simulation to run. Users have reported that this issue can occur if the Flex Tokens balance shows zero Flex Tokens available in the account. Although there may have been the required 51 Flex Tokens to launch CFD Ultimate with Flex Tokens, the software will not recognize the required license (CFD Ultimate, Advanced, or Motion, depending on year) to run a simulation unless there is a non-zero Flex Token balance.

The example below displays CFD Ultimate entitlement along with the CFD Design Study Environment. The CFD Ultimate license would need to display in the License Manager to run a simulation.

Solution:
This issue is currently under investigation by Autodesk. At the time of this writing, the solution is to ensure all updates are installed and to make sure there is at least one available Flex Token is showing in the user Autodesk account.
As this issue is under investigation, we will provide updates as they become available.
