Revit errors at "Saving model to local cache" while collaborating to the cloud

January 19, 2024 Paul Sills

In Revit you have gone to the Collaborate tab > clicked on Collaborate and selected the appropriate folders then clicked the Initiate button. The uploading model to the cloud was successful but it errors when saving model to local cache.

Solution:

Verify your Revit is up to date with updates. Here is Autodesk's blog on how to find your build (located at the bottom of the blog) and all the build numbers for each version.

Here is Autodesk's blog on how to update your Autodesk software either through your Autodesk desktop App or through your Autodesk accounts page.

You will want to check and make sure that your Revit's update matches the actual build number that is showing inside Revit. Here are the ways you need to check:

Verify what updates your computer sees through your Control Panel:

Open Control Panel and go to Programs or Uninstall a Program

Control panel

Within Uninstall or Change a program click on View installed updates in the upper left corner.

Control panel view installed updates

Find Revit in the list and look at what updates your computer sees as being installed.

Verify what Revit shows as your Build number:

To find the build number, you can go to  Help > About.  Locate the build number in the upper right corner of the About window.

Verify what Revit is pulling for your build number within your Journal:

Find your most recent journal and open it in Notepad. Journals are located in the C:\Users\user profile folder\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 20XX\Journals folder.

If you find that your build is not what is reflected in your Control Panel you will need to reinstall just your Revit software and only the version you are having this issue with. How to uninstall your software

Verify after you have uninstalled Revit, that within Control Panel you do not see any Revit updates within the View all installed updates.

If your Control Panel is still showing that you have Revit updates installed you will need to manually find these within your registry and delete the strings. Search in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>software>microsoft>windows>current version>uninstall  and look at the values for the Revit update i.e. Revit 2024.2 and delete it. Refresh your Control Panel and see if the update is now gone from the list.

Before deleting anything in the registry make sure you save a backup https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/322756/how-to-back-up-and-restore-the-registry-in-windows

Warning! Problems caused by improperly editing the Windows registry could render your computer/operating system unusable. Microsoft provides a wealth of critical information that you need to know about the registry in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.  Use the Microsoft® Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after backing up the registry as well as the system.dat and user.dat files as outlined for your operating system in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.  Additional information about the registry is also contained in the Help topics in the Microsoft Registry Editor.
