Data Shortcuts pointing to Autosave file (Civil 3D 2020-2022)

October 18, 2021 Ryan Wunderlich

Issue:

You create Data shortcuts in Civil 3D 2020, 2021, or 2022 from a file, and after the Autosave triggers, any new data shortcuts point to the AutoSave file and are broken upon save (steps to replicate are below):

  1. Create a drawing
  2. Add items that can be data shortcuts (I added an alignment)
  3. Save the file
    I saved it to C:\Civil 3D Projects\Civil3D-Training\Drawing1.dwg
  4. Create the Data Shortcuts to the items made
  5. Wait for Autosave to trigger
  6. Create a new Alignment (Alignments 3 & 4)
  7. Create Data Shortcuts
Note that I can add all 4 alignments (even though 1 & 2 are already added)
  8. Checking my data shortcuts now, the data is referencing the Autosave

9. If I now save the DWG, and validate the shortcuts, the ones I just added are now broken:

Causes:

This problem is a known issue that is corrected by applying updates

Solution:

To correct this behavior, you must install one of the following updates:

Civil 3D 2022.1 Update

Civil 3D 2021.3 Update

Civil 3D 2020.6 Update

If you cannot update (or your company will not allow updating to the version above), then ensure you Save the file before adding any additional Data Shortcuts
