Solution:

This guide covers a step-by-step process for creating a family with a detailed description to help you through this difficult task. After completing this guide, you will be able to apply the same logic to create a variety of different advanced families for project needs. This guide is for users who understand how to build a basic Revit family and apply parameters to control the family.

The guide is divided into 6 sections:

  1. Assessing family structure of Door-Passage-Single-Flush.rfa.
  2. Adding Door Swing Parameter.
  3. Creating Door Panel Family.
  4. Creating Door Accessary Family.
  5. Adding Door Panel Swap parameter.
  6. Modifying Door Handle Family.

Adding door panel swing parameter:

There are several different methods to add the swing parameter. In this exercise, I will use revolving geometry to control the swing parameter. This is the best way to avoid Revit’s straight angle parameter issue.

  1. Open the interior elevation view and Create Revolve on Door Front Reference plane on the hinge side of the door (Door Right reference plane).
  2. Then mirror the revolve axially to the Door Front reference Plane.
  3. Set End and Start angles shown below to test the geometry.
  4. Add a parameter to the End Angle.
  5. Create a new Door Panel Swing Angle parameter and apply it to the End Angle. Swing Angle parameter also can be used but this will tie the door panel swing angle to nested 2D door swing detail angle. In this example, there will be 2 separate parameters to control the 3D door panel and 2D detail door panel swing.
  6. Test the parameter by changing the value.
