How to use the Autodesk Desktop App to Install Updates

June 8, 2022 Jeff Lotan

Issue:

You need to install updates for your Autodesk software but the Autodesk Manage portal lists too many that do not apply to the software you have installed.

Solution:

When running the Autodesk Desktop App (ADA) it will show you an icon for each Autodesk program that is installed.  When you select one of those it shows you only the updates for that Product but does not show you things like licensing updates.

To get all the applicable updates, launch the Autodesk Desktop App (ADA) and select the “My Updates” button.  It also shows updates for licensing.

Verify you have the 8.4.0.50 version (or newer) of the ADA installed (see below), then use these steps to install the updates / hotfixes /service packs.

1)   Run the Autodesk Desktop App and “Sign In”, then install all the updates/service packs (click the down arrow looking icon in the upper left) you see for the program that is having problems. Including licensing updates/hotfixes.  IMPORTANT:  Civil 3D, Architecture, Mechanical, etc are built ON TOP of AutoCAD so ensure you also install updates for AutoCAD.  Also if you do not ‘Sign In’ you probably won’t see all of the updates available.

2) I recommend install from the bottom of the list working your way up and only one at a time.  You are allowed up to 3 at a time.

3)  Reboot.

4)  Test the program(s).

To verify the version installed:

Launch the Autodesk Desktop App and click the arrow to expand the menu.

Click “About”

Verify the version:

Here is the link to download the latest version of the ADA if you don’t have it installed already:
