Fabrication CADmep Lok File

March 24, 2022 Heather Volk

Issue:

Have you ever experienced a crash while working in Autodesk products? Was the product Fabrication CADmep? Once you re-opened Fabrication did you get the following error? “Unable to lock the file. The file is already locked by User”.

Causes:

The main cause of this issue is Fabrication crashing unexpectedly while editing the database. This issue can also appear when trying to edit data in the database such as services, specifications or the address book. Or while working in the Item Folders by creating, renaming, deleting or moving folders, and editing “.itm” patterns.

Solution:

To fix this issue you must delete the “.lok” file.

Steps:

  1. Close all Fabrication products.

(Note: In a multi-user environment, each computer needs to be out of Fabrication)

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. Browse to the location shown in the pop-up message.
  3. Search by file type, and scroll down or search for a “.lok” file and delete. **Do not delete any other files**

  1. Launch Fabrication and work as usual.
