Issue:
You have your environment to display Black for Paper Space and have Civil 3D Labels (with background mask turned on) in an XREF and you cannot read the label text (it’s masked out), and any live text with background mask is also masked out:
Causes:
This is a defect in Civil 3D (Defect CIVIL-48170), but only specific conditions:
Background for Paper Space is set to Black.
You use STB Plotting:
You have Civil 3D labels with background masking enabled in them.
Solution:
The current fix for this is to not set Paper Space background to Black, but instead set the paper space background color to 1,1,1, and it is close enough to black you won’t notice, but it will correct the label masking display issue.
