'Set All Targets' command in Civil 3D

Title:

Speed Up Corridor Target Mapping in Civil 3D with the Hidden “Set All Targets” Feature

Issue:

Assigning targets to corridor subassemblies—such as surfaces, alignments, and feature lines—typically requires selecting each subassembly one by one in the Target Mapping dialog. For corridors with multiple baselines and regions, this manual process is slow, repetitive, and error-prone. It's easy to miss targets or apply inconsistent assignments across similar subassemblies, leading to modeling errors and wasted time during updates or revisions.

Solution:

Use the lesser-known “Set All Targets” tool within the Corridor Properties dialog to globally assign targets across all applicable subassemblies, baselines, and regions in a single step.

Steps:

  1. Open Corridor Properties and go to the Parameters tab.
  2. Click the small button labeled “Set All Targets” at the bottom of the dialog.
  3. In the global target mapping window that appears, assign your surface, alignment/profile, and/or object targets (feature lines, polylines, corridors).
  4. Confirm and apply. The assignments will automatically populate across all matching subassemblies in every region and baseline.

This method eliminates redundant clicks and ensures consistent targeting, especially useful for:

  • Applying a common EG surface to daylighting subassemblies
  • Referencing the same offset alignments across lane widening regions
  • Assigning feature lines for ditches, grading, or curb offsets
