Issue:
Parts created in previous versions of Inventor Professional, and opened in Inventor Professional 2022, will appear darker than in previous versions. In some cases, the part may appear black. The example part below has the Material and Appearance set as Aluminum but appears too dark.
Causes:
This issue is caused by a problem with the Lighting.xml located in the default Inventor 2022 Design Data folder. Open the Styles and Standards Editor, from the Manage tab>Styles and Standards panel, and you will notice the default setting for the light is off.
Solution:
A quick fix is to open Styles and Standards to turn the light on.
The part will appear as expected. See below.
For a permanent fix, install the latest updates for Inventor 2022 and update the Style and Standards.
- Launch the Autodesk Desktop App and find the latest update for Inventor. This issue was resolved in Inventor 2022.1. The latest Inventor 2022 update will include the Inventor 2022.1 update.
- Update the Styles and Standards. Open Inventor Professional 2022 and open a part. Go to the Manage tab>Styles and Standards panel. Select Update. Make sure the Style you want to update, Type Lighting, is visible. Select the Update box to change No to Yes. Then select OK.
- You will receive a Prompt to ensure you want to update the selected Style (Lighting). Select Yes.
- A dialog box “Loading IBL Environment” will appear on screen. Once the IBL Environment is loaded, the text box will close by itself.
A new tab is loaded into your Styles and Standards. Open Styles and Standards and you will see the “Environment” tab is now visible.
Inventor Parts will now appear as expected, even if the light in Styles and Standards is turned off.
