In a non-persistent virtual environment Autodesk credentials are needed at every login

February 3, 2023 Ken Williams

Issue:

Credentials to log in are asked for Autodesk software after every logoff/reboot from Windows in a non-persistent virtual environment.

Causes:

Non-persistent virtual environments do not retain system changes after reboot.

Solution:

All Autodesk software needs the ability to write information in the %localappdata% and %appdata% location and the license details are usually stored in a file called Loginstate.xml that is located in the %localappdata%\Autodesk\Web Services folder in the user's local Windows profile. If this file is deleted, a new login will be prompted after opening Autodesk software.

Loginstate.xml location cannot be changed, therefore, there is no way to avoid such behavior when using a non-persistent virtual environment.
