The New Clipping Feature in Cyclone Field 360

April 5, 2023 James Branagan

In the latest release of Leica Geosystem’s Field 360 app, used for controlling your Leica terrestrial scanner, the ability to clip points from a point cloud has been added.  This new feature allows the user to begin the cleanup process directly on the Field 360 app whilst in the field.

To use this new feature, begin by selecting an individual scan location and then select the right most red button at the bottom of the screen

Once selected the clipping box and options will appear

Selecting on the corner circular grips will allow the size of the box to be adjusted in the horizontal and vertical planes.

Selecting on one of the blue lines will allow the clipping box to be rotated and moved.

Once the clipping box has been positioned correctly, select the Done button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

This will allow you to select whether to delete the points inside the clipping box or outside the clipping box.

The ability to clip points on the Field 360 app is another useful tool that allows the use to better utilize the time spent waiting for new scans to finish and begin the clean up process. This can even further reduce the time needed in the office to create a clean, registered point cloud.
