User Management Error: “Only the owner can move a subscription."

September 15, 2021

Issue:

An Autodesk license is on a different Team in User Management, and you encounter an error stating “Only the owner can move a subscription…” when moving the subscription to a different Team.

Causes:

A license is on an Autodesk account Team and you decide to move the license to a different Team. There are several reasons a new Team could be created or you would want to reorganize your Team licenses. A new Autodesk license purchase will sometimes create a new Team inside an Autodesk account. This typically occurs when a license is purchased on a new contract but could also occur when adding a license to an existing contract.

Only a user Autodesk account that is listed as a Primary Admin or Secondary Admin can view the User Management section that contains Teams. While logged into a Primary or Secondary Admin account, when you try to move the subscription to a different team, the error occurs. The link below contains more information about Autodesk teams.

Solution:

Contact the Contract Manager. Only the Contract Manager can move the subscription license from one Team to another. By default, the Contract Manager is initially listed as the Primary Admin on an Autodesk account Team but there are a variety of situations where the Primary Admin role may be assigned to another user Autodesk account. Even though a user may be assigned a Primary Admin or Secondary Admin, only the user listed as the Contract Manger, or an Autodesk representative, may move a subscription. The Contract Manager role cannot be changed from inside a Primary Admin or Secondary Admin user Autodesk account. If you would like to change the user listed as the Contract Manager, then please contact IMAGINiT Technologies so we may assist.
