Revit APL error - could not load file or assembly 'Apl_Glue

In Revit, when trying to click on "Get License" on the Autodesk Point Layout tab you get an error that cannot be ignored.

Error reads; could not load file or assembly 'Apl_Glue, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKEyToken=nul' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Apl error

The solution is to reinstall the Autodesk Point Layout (APL).

Go to Control Panel > Program and Features

You will uninstall the Autodesk Point Layout Licensing 20XX and the Autodesk Point Layout 20XX.

Apl uninstall

If you have tried reinstalling the APL and you still get the error message which clicking on "Get License", open up a recent journal and run the Find tool. Journals can be found in the

C:\Users\user profile folder\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 20XX\Journals

Using the Find tool type APL to search for any paths that your software may be pointing to.

I had a situation with Revit 2017 getting this error. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Autodesk Point Layout but that didn't resolve my issue.  When I searched my journal for APL the path was pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Autodesk Point Layout 2018\APL 2017_64. For some reason my Point Layout tools were pointing to the 2018 folder. The only way I could get this to stop was to uninstall the Autodesk Point Layout for 2018 and go a step further and remove it from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\ and ran a search in the registry. Once all traces of Autodesk Point Layout 2018 was removed from my machine Revit 2017 finally looked to the correct path.

Note: As of 01/19/2024, Revit 2018, Point Layout 2018, Revit 2017, and Point Layout 2017 is no longer supported by Autodesk. The information contained in this post may no longer be relevant and/or the necessary updates to the product may be inaccessible.
