Revit Cloud Model Maintenance

This blog shows you what to do if you keep getting errors that your elements/data is corrupt in your cloud model.  There are two ways to go about this; one is to clean up the model which should be done frequently and the other is to find a backup of the corrupt model.

Revit Cloud Maintenance

How to find your local cloud model:

1.  Make sure all users in the cloud model have synced their work, relinquished, and closed their model.

2.  The user who initiated the Collaborate for Revit on the model needs to publish the model so it will be updated on the BIM 360 website. Here is how to publish your model: How to publish your Revit model .

3.  Ensure everyone who is working on the project is on the latest build.

4.  Have all users find their local cloud model file and archive or move it. To find your local cloud model follow the steps below:

  • Identify the Project and Model GUID for the affected model:
    • Open a recent journal file in NotePad.

All Journal files are located in C:\Users\user profile folder\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 20XX\Journals folder. * AppData is a hidden folder. Here is Microsoft's steps on how to show hidden folders: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

  • First find the projects GUID. Use the find tool to search for CLD. It will look like this; CLD:\\{Project GUID with numbers and dashes}(Project Name)\{Model GUID also with numbers and dashes}(Model Name).rvt. Write down the project and model name GUID.
    • For example my local from the project called 2019 RAC would show in the journal as: "CLD:\\{df5ac47f-ccdc-491d-a8ad-4e73a7780c58}(cbiddulph) Revit 2019\{ad832dfc-b89a-48f0-a9d9-8980515a8a69}2019 RAC.rvt".
  • Next find the location of the project folder using NotePad’s find tool to search for; SLOG  Local (double space between slog and local)
    • For example my path is "C:\Users\cbiddulph\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2019\CollaborationCache\200804142022663\df5ac47f-ccdc-491d-a8ad-4e73a7780c58\ad832dfc-b89a-48f0-a9d9-8980515a8a69.rvt"
  • Move the entire model folder in the CollaborationCache folder to another location (e.g. the Desktop or network)

5.  Delete as much as you can from the temp folder located here: C:\Users\your user profile folder\AppData\Local\Temp. If something will not let you delete it click Skip. *AppData is a hidden folder. Here is Microsoft's steps on how to show hidden folders: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

How to perform maintenance on your cloud model

1.  Once everyone's locals are moved, Open Revit then navigate to Version history.

2.  Open the and audit the file that you are trying to recover. This will save the file as detached file.

3.  When you have confirmed the model opens without errors and any linked in models are loading without issues you can now go back to the Autodesk Construction Cloud site and do one of the following: Delete the model within the project, rename the model and create a new folder and move it. You can remove permissions to view the folder so others can't see it.

4.  Perform a Revit model maintenance and save the model.

a. Purge unused.

b.  Resolve wanrings.

5.  With your clean model you can now run the Collaborate command to save it to the cloud with the original file name. Once its successfully on the cloud you can have everyone open the model which will create a new local and test by running a sync to central.
