ACC Best Practice Part 7 – Model Coordination Set Up

Issue:

Users are unable to customize views in the model coordination module according to their preferences.

Causes:

The model coordination view setting begins with Revit publishing, but most users do not have a coordination 3D view set up for the model coordination module.

Solution:

The setup process should commence in Revit. It is crucial to plan ahead for the type of clash the user is seeking and prepare the model accordingly to meet those specific requirements.

Model coordination utilizes views within the model for the coordination space. The following example outlines the process of setting up a 3D view for an Electrical and Mechanical model clash:

  1. Create a new 3D view for the Electrical Model. 
  2. Disable all links using the Visibility Control feature. 
  3. Enhance the 3D view for better clash identification by utilizing visibility control. In this specific example, the clash's purpose is to identify overall clashes between the Electrical and Mechanical models. Consequently, the 3D view should only display the entire electrical model without other disciplines.                                           
    • Depending on clash requirements, the user may exclude additional components to narrow down the clash criteria.
  4. Assign a unique name to the view.                                             
  5. Synchronize with Central and then publish the model.  
  6. Prepare the mechanical model in the same manner and publish it as well.
  7. Create a package and share the model before initiating the clash between the models.
  8. Open the Model Coordination module.
  9. Select the models that need to be clashed.   
  10. Follow the direction in the link if you get Clash Not identified in Model Coordination (imaginit.com)
  11. Click the "Open in viewer" button.  
  12. Apply filters, if necessary, to refine the clash targets.                                           
  13. Save the view.                                                                                                 
  14. Select the clash button to review all clashes between the Electrical model and Mechanical models. Utilize different parameters to organize the clash list according to your preferences.  
  15. Review each clash and create issues or markups for the report.      
  16. Generate a report with various options that align with your needs.
