Leica's Cyclone 3DR software is designed for field-to-finish tasks, allowing users to leverage scan data for registration, linework extraction, meshing, and, in some instances, solid modeling. In addition to these extraction capabilities, the software enables analysis of point cloud, CAD, or mesh data, facilitating the creation of comprehensive reports. 3DR proves highly beneficial for professionals in the AEC, Survey, or Plant industries seeking to elevate their point cloud data utilization. Leveraging JetStream technology, Cyclone 3DR efficiently manages point cloud data, ensuring streamlined processing.
Over time, 3DR has evolved to offer various modules catering to diverse use cases, including Standard, AEC, Survey, and Tank options, alongside a Pro option encompassing all modules except Tank. Recently, Leica revamped its licensing approach owing to a noteworthy enhancement to 3DR. You might have come across videos or announcements on Leica's website revealing that Cyclone 3DR now incorporates tools for piping extraction from point cloud data. While it's true that this functionality exists in CloudWorx, Leica's inclusion of these tools signifies a significant advancement.
These new capabilities have merged with the existing Tank module to form the Plant module. The most exciting aspect of this update is that the Plant module is now included in the Cyclone 3DR Pro license, a departure from the previous Tank module licensing arrangement.
Let's delve into some of the novel tools. Firstly, importing a point cloud with a sufficient amount of data into Cyclone 3DR is the initial step.
Once the point cloud has been imported, just choose the point cloud and navigate to the Extract tab on the Ribbon. Here, you'll find the Scan to Pipe tool ready for activation.
Initiate a new pipe trace by clicking on the point cloud. Place the first click at the beginning of the pipe, and another click wherever you wish the pipe to extend. To add elbows, simply click on the Elbow and Straight Pipe tool. All pipes are editable; select a pipe and use the arrows to adjust its length. Similarly, elbows can be modified by selecting them and adjusting the radius using the arrow tool.

Once all pipes and elbows have been created, they can be exported in a variety of formats.
