Issue:
You either open an AutoCAD-based product, open a drawing or go to plot and it’s very slow to do the requested task.
Causes:
This problem can be due to many things (corrupt profile, excessive layout tabs, printers that no longer exist, working over a VPN, etc.) This blog will focus on a specific one that I see on a regular basis:
Having a Windows Shortcut to a different folder located in a support directory or with the drawing.
Here’s what a shortcut looks like:
When I open a drawing in this location, this location becomes a temporary Support path in AutoCAD based software, so it will see the short cut (above to my Civil 3D Projects), and will open that shortcut (because it’s where the drawing is located), process all the files/folders in that location before continuing. If I have a shortcut in that Civil 3D Projects, it will see it and again, go through that location as well.
Solution:
Make sure to remove any and all shortcuts to other drive letters or folder locations from any support paths you have in AutoCAD-based products and be aware to remove them in any location where you open drawings.
