Advanced - Modifying Door Family Part 04

Solution:

This guide covers a step-by-step process for creating a family with a detailed description to help you through this difficult task. After completing this guide, you will be able to apply the same logic to create a variety of different advanced families for project needs. This guide is for users who understand how to build a basic Revit family and apply parameters to control the family.

The guide is divided into 6 sections:

  1. Assessing family structure of Door-Passage-Single-Flush.rfa.
  2. Adding Door Swing Parameter.
  3. Creating Door Panel Family.
  4. Creating Door Accessary Family.
  5. Adding Door Panel Swap parameter.
  6. Modifying Door Handle Family.

Creating Door Accessory:

Door handle accessory family will be nested to Door-Passage_Single-Flush.rfa. The door handle family will also be a face-based family.

  1. Open a new family editor using Generic Model Face Based.rft.
  2. Create a door handle using a sweep.
  3. Save the family as Door handle and nest it into the door family.
  4. Test the door panel angle family after placing the door handle family.
  5. Place the Strike Height parameter to the top reference plane of the door handle family.
  6. Adjust the door handle’s lateral position accordingly. The handle position will be fixed, and only the Strike Height parameter is needed to control the handle height position.
  7. Place the door handle family on the other side of the door panel and apply strike height parameters.
  8. Update the door handle families’ element visibility setting so that it won’t show up on Plan/RCP.
  9. Test the family after loading it into the project.
