Inventor double-click Excel table error 'Failed to launch server application'

Issue:

In Inventor trying to edit an embedded Excel table in a drawing results in this error:

Cause:

The error is caused by Sage software installed on the same system.

Sage software installs an Excel Add-In and this can cause a delay in opening Excel or the above error in Inventor.

Solution:

If the error is random, open Windows Task Manager and end any 'Excel.exe' processes that are running when the error occurs.

If the Excel Add-In can't be removed and there are frequent errors, uninstall Sage to restore the double-click functionality.
