Back up Inventor Application Options and Customize settings

Issue:

Before resetting, uninstalling or moving to another system you want to back up your Inventor Application Options settings and some customization settings.

Solution:

Create a back up of your Application Options settings and Customize settings(Ribbon, Quick Access ToolbarCommand Aliases and Marking Menus).

Export these to an XML file or copy the default XML files to another location.

Note:  Some UI settings are not saved in these two files, they're saved in the Windows registry.  For example some interface elements(View Cube/Navigation bar, Model Browser and Panel tabs) and  dialog box preferences.

Open Inventor and go to the Tools Ribbon:

1. Application Options

Changes made here should automatically be saved in the UserApplicationOptions.xml file in this location: %appdata%\Autodesk\Inventor version\UserApplicationOptions.xml

'Changes made to Application Options that are visible in the UI and that can be exported or imported via XML, are written to and read from a file named UserApplicationOptions.xml. The remainder are written to the registry'

You can also export to a new xml file, use Export option at the bottom:

Copy the UserApplicationOptions.xml file or your exported xml to another location to keep as a backup.

2. Customize Settings

Changes made in the Customize dialog box should automatically be saved in the InventorCustomization.xml file.

Ribbon, Marking Menu or Keyboard shortcuts are saved here: %appdata%\Autodesk\Inventor version\ InventorCustomization.xml

You can also  export to a new xml file, use Export option at the bottom:

Copy the InventorCustomization.xml file or your exported xml to another location to keep as a backup.

Both files(UserApplicationOptions.xml and InventorCustomization.xml) can be kept as a backup.  Use the Import option at the bottom in both dialog boxes on a new system or after resetting Inventor to default settings.
