"This Operation Could Not Be Completed.” even after a successful sync

Issue:

The "Sync with Central" dialog pop-up indicates that syncing was successful, but it also displays the message, "This operation could not be completed. Please try again."

This issue occurs in both Revit 2023 and 2022.

Causes:

This problem arises from using mixed versions of Revit after the September 2023 updates listed below:

  • Revit 2021.1.9
  • Revit 2022.1.5
  • Revit 2023.1.3
  • Revit 2024.1.1

Solution:

Unfortunately, there isn't a solution for this issue, and the Autodesk development team is working on an update. This issue primarily affects Revit 2022 and Revit 2023 users. Matching the Revit build for all users resolves the issue for most Revit 2023 users. However, the solution doesn't consistently work.

The following is a possible workaround to remedy the issue; please follow these steps:

  1. Have all users exit the Revit model and close it after syncing the file.
  2. All users should clear the cache folder by renaming the folder at C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2022 to "Revit 2022_Old." (For guidance on clearing a corrupt/damaged cloud workshared model or outdated link from the system in Revit, refer to (How to clear a corrupt/damaged cloud workshared model or outdated link from the system in Revit (autodesk.com))
  3. One user should open the project file with "Audit."
  4. Open the project from the "Manage Cloud Model" dialog (Collaborate > Manage Cloud Models).
  5. Navigate to the project file and click the "Action" button.
  6. Select "Relinquish" and force a relinquish for anyone listed in the dialog box.
  7. Sync to Central.
  8. Then, all other users should open the file from BIM 360/ACC in Revit by navigating to the file location under Autodesk Docs. Make sure no one opens the file from the "Recent File" list.
  9. Once everyone has created a new, fresh local file from the BIM 360/ACC project, sync to central.
