Revit to BIM 360: Moving an existing file-based work-shared model to BIM 360

Issue:

The option to Collaborate in BIM 360 Doc management is greyed out or unavailable.

Causes:

The model is already being collaborated on the network or server.

Solution:

Switch it to collaborating in the cloud.

1. First have everyone associated with the project sync to central and get out of the project. Only one user should do the following steps:
2. Open the project with an Audit and do a save as to the desktop. (This file can be deleted once the file gets moved to BIM360)
3. Then go to the Collaborate Tab and in the Manage Collaboration Panel, Click Collaborate.

Note: If prompted to sign into your Autodesk account, use the account associated with the license.

4. In the Collaborate pop up, select “In BIM 360 Document Management” and then ok.

5. Name the project, select the location you want to put the project and then click Initiate.

6. Revit will show information on the status of the collaboration.

7. Close the project and then try to reopen by pathing to the project folder location you just saved in. When looking in the “Recent Files” location of Revit you can visibly see what type of models you have. If you see the box in the left lower corner that means it is a collaborated model. If the box also has a cloud, that means it is collaborated in the cloud / BIM 360. If there is nothing, it is not a collaborated model.

**Note: You should always open from the central model by pathing to it, and not opening from Recents. This can cause issues down the road with versions and corruption. **

8. All linked models in the project will have to be saved as cloud models (non-workshared) or collaborated to cloud (workshared) separately as well. Please see article on those steps:

*** Pro Tip: All users should clear their temp folders before working on new project. This will free up space on the computer giving Revit more space for designing.

*** Go to file explorer and type in “%temp%” hit enter, select all and delete all the items not open or using admin credentials to remove. ***
