Time-Saving Features in BIM Substation Designer: Built-In Guidance and Language Support

Learning a new tool or switching between language settings can interrupt your design work. Two features in SBS BIM Substation Designer help make these tasks easier: the Learning Panel and support for English and French in version 2027.1.

Here’s how to use them to keep guidance close at hand and work in your preferred language.

Access Step-by-Step Help with the Learning Panel

Not sure how to use a tool or what to do next? The Learning Panel provides step-by-step instructions to help you complete design tasks without leaving BIM Substation Designer.

The panel includes Home and Guidance tabs, along with an Interactive toggle in the upper-right corner. When Interactive mode is turned on, selecting a tool on the ribbon displays instructions for that tool in the Guidance tab.

You can find guidance in three ways:
•    Select a tool on the Learning Panel’s Home tab.
•    Click a tool on the ribbon with Interactive mode turned on.
•    Use the search bar to locate the feature you need.

Whether you’re exploring an unfamiliar feature or refreshing your knowledge, the Learning Panel puts instructions within reach while you work.

Work in English or French

BIM Substation Designer 2027.1 is localized for English (ENU) and French (FRA), giving users the flexibility to work in either supported language.

To change the Autodesk Revit interface language, you can edit the Revit desktop shortcut. Revit’s core interface languages are built into the software, so you don’t need to reinstall Revit or download an additional language pack.

To update your shortcut:
1.    Right-click your Revit desktop shortcut and select Properties.
2.    In the Target field, add a space after the existing application path, followed by /language and the desired language code.
3.    Select OK to save, then launch Revit using the updated shortcut.

For example, add /language ENU for English or /language FRA for French.

Tip: Duplicate your shortcut before editing it. You can then keep separate English and French shortcuts rather than changing the same shortcut each time you want to switch languages.

Multiple Revit instances running BIM Substation Designer can also operate in different languages on a single machine.
