Lesser Used Civil 3D Commands: SIGNSTYLES

Update Author Metadata Related to Civil 3D Styles

Just because some commands are lesser used does not mean that these commands are useless. Take for example the command SIGNSTYLES.

Normally, you can update the “Created by” information related to these styles, but that is it. The “Last modified by” information is greyed out preventing you to be able to update this information. Additionally, if you did intend to update this data manually, you would need to do so for every style you would like to reflect author information on proving to be a very time consuming process.

This is where the SIGNSTYLES command comes in useful as it allows a user to update the “Created by” and “Last modified by” information for all styles in the drawing in which the command is run.

When the SIGNSTYLES command is run within in a drawing, you will be prompted to enter a username with which to sign styles. Once typing in the desired username and pressing enter to accept, all styles will then be updated. The username entered allows for spaces as well, making this is a perfect solution to add your organization’s formal name giving your drawing a much more professional feel to them, especially when sharing your raw drawing files with others outside of your organization.

The SIGNSTYLES command is not as well known or used nearly as often as others but is very useful in polishing your template files to be specific to your organization. It is quick and easy to run and updates not only the “Created by” but also the “Last modified by” fields otherwise not easily done with other methods for all styles within your current drawing.
