Bluebeam Max and AI: Your Questions Answered

Our recent Bluebeam Spotlight: Bluebeam Max – AI for Project Documents session generated many questions focused on how Bluebeam Max connects with AI, what it can automate, and where human review still matters.

Below are answers to some of the most common questions. You can also watch this session and other Bluebeam Spotlight recordings in our Bluebeam Spotlight playlist on YouTube.

What is Bluebeam Max?

Bluebeam Max is a subscription tier within Bluebeam Revu. Revu is available in Basics, Core, Complete, and Max plans, with Max adding AI integration through Model Context Protocol (MCP) along with other advanced capabilities.

Do I need both Bluebeam Max and Claude?

Yes. Bluebeam Max and Anthropic Claude are separate subscriptions.

Bluebeam Max provides the MCP connection within Revu, while Claude is purchased separately and installed as a desktop application.

Why is Bluebeam Max required if Claude is separate?

Bluebeam Max provides the MCP integration that allows a compatible AI application to interact directly with Revu.

This means AI can help perform actions within the active PDF, such as creating page labels, setting scales, adding bookmarks, and creating markups.

What kinds of tasks can AI help with in Revu?

Examples include:

  • Creating page labels, bookmarks, and page scales
  • Turning information from emails into PDF markups
  • Supporting quantity takeoffs
  • Reviewing drawing sets for missing sheets
  • Assisting with preliminary compliance reviews
  • Creating markup summaries and change reports
  • Helping build reusable markup tools

One example used RFIs copied from an email and placed the corresponding markups on the appropriate sheets within the drawing set.

Can Bluebeam Max check a sheet index for missing drawings?

Yes. AI can compare the sheet index with the drawings included in the set and flag potential gaps.

In testing, it also identified gaps in sheet numbering that could indicate additional missing drawings, even when the listed sheet index itself appeared complete.

Can it compare different versions of drawings?

Revu already includes tools such as Document Compare and Batch Compare, while Bluebeam Max also includes Smart Overlay.

AI can support comparison workflows, but existing Revu tools may still be the better option when the task can be completed quickly without AI.

Can AI perform code or compliance reviews?

It can assist with preliminary reviews, but the results should always be verified by a qualified person.

AI can identify potential issues and compare drawings against reference material, but it may miss information or interpret something incorrectly. Human review remains essential for compliance, design, estimating, and other critical project decisions.

Can reports run automatically?

Yes. Scheduled tasks can be configured through Claude.

One example involved creating a daily markup change log that reported new markups, status changes, completed or rejected items, and other activity requiring attention.

What about data security?

Bluebeam provides AI transparency information covering its approach to AI and data handling. Organizations should review Bluebeam and Anthropic policies alongside their own IT, security, contractual, and regulatory requirements before adopting AI workflows.
