Autodesk Flexlm Versions Through the Years

Issue:

You receive an error (varies) when you try to obtain a network license and have the latest version of the license file.

Causes:

You need to know which version of Flexlm you need to run for the Autodesk software to obtain a network license.  The version of flexlm is not sufficient to grant licenses for that version of Autodesk software.

Solution:

For each release of Autodesk software starting with the 2002 release, Autodesk has released a different version of Flexlm* to use with their license file. Each one seems to have added a little bit of functionality or fixes.  So, what version of Autodesk programs go with what versions of Flex License Manager?

Should you be on the most current version?  The answer is yes, always upgrade the license manager when implementing new Autodesk Networked products or new license files with old products. From time to time Autodesk enables new features in the newer license files, which needs the latest license manager to function properly. These new features can be incompatible with the older license managers.

Note:  Newer license managers are backwards compatible, meaning the latest license manager will work with older license files, but not the other way around. It may seem to work with an older license manager and newer license file, but sooner or later it will fail.

Autodesk has provided us with a nice link to get to the latest version of flexlm, verify the system requirements and Download it from the Autodesk site: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/network-license-administration/get-ready-network-license/download-the-network-license-manager
