Autodesk Vault Install Error: HTTP Error 500.24 – Internal Server Error

Issue:

This error is often seen when troubleshooting the Autodesk Data Management Server Console installation pre-checks on your server, however, it may also be seen when upgrading an existing Vault installation after Windows updates have run on your server.  You’ve gone through the ASP.Net troubleshooting steps suggested by the Server installer Pre-Checks, but you still can’t get past the error to finish the install/upgrade.

Causes:

The cause is typically improper security settings in your IIS configuration.  These may have been changed manually or due to updates that may have run on your server.

Solution:

To resolve the issue, first start the IIS Manager. Then select the Default Website in the left pane as shown below. Next, double click 'Authentication' under the IIS group of icons in the central pane. Finally, select “ASP.NET Impersonation” and switch the setting from “Enable” to “Disable” in the right pane.

Finally, select “ASP.NET Impersonation” and switch the setting from “Enabled” to “Disabled” in the right pane.

If, after making the change recommended above, you still encounter issues with the installation, the link below contains additional suggestions for addressing "Accessing an http static file failed" at URL “http://localhost/TestASP/TestASPNetStatic.txt” issues.  The link also includes additional links for alternate solutions if needed.
