Issue:
Revit hangs when opening the project file. The journal file includes the following lines:
DBG_WARN: SQLLocalDB instance is malfunctioning.
'Expect crashes when using steel functionalities in Revit.
' Please stop the current Revit session !
Causes:
The SQL database is corrupted or not functioning properly.
Solution:
Perform a clean reinstallation of SQL Server 2014 LocalDB Express. Follow these steps:
- Open Control Panel:

- Navigate to the Control Panel on your computer.
- Uninstall SQL Server 2014 LocalDB Express:
- Go to "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel.
- Find and uninstall "SQL Server 2014 LocalDB Express".
- Clear the %temp% folder:
- Open File Explorer.
- Type %temp% in the address bar and press Enter.
- Delete all files in the %temp% folder and skip deletion when there is pop up.
- Download SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 3 (SP3) Express:
- Select and download the "ENU\x64\SqlLocalDB.msi":
- On the download page, select the "ENU\x64\SqlLocalDB.msi" file.
- Click on the download button to save it to your computer.
- Run the downloaded SQL LocalDB:
- Navigate to the location where you downloaded the "SqlLocalDB.msi" file.
- Double-click on the file to start the installation process.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
