Hatch patterns break apart when changing scale or altering the hatch

Issue:

After placing a hatch or when editing an existing hatch to change any parameters, the hatch blows up and is no longer displaying correctly:

Causes:

This is typically caused by the hatch being significantly far away from the 0,0 Origin or having an hatch origin too far away from the hatch pattern

Solution:

There are 2 ways of correcting this behavior

Option 1: Turn on, unlock and thaw all layers, and using the Move Command and ALL at the prompt for objects, move the object close to 0,0.  This is generally not ideal, as you may have a specific reason for it to be where it currently is located (Civil 3D especially).

Option 2:  This is the preferred method.  Select the hatch by selecting it with no command running.  Then in the Ribbon, find the Hatch Editor Ribbon, and look for the Set Origin button:

Click that and select a point near or on the hatch pattern and click to set a new hatch origin.  This will generally fix the hatch and have it displayed correctly (red circle denotes where I selected for the Hatch Origin):

NOTE: If you have multiple hatches in your drawing and don’t want to change them one at a time, use QSELECT to select all hatches in the drawing and set the Hatch Origin to a location near the middle of them.
