Autodesk: “An error occurred while preparing the installation”


When you are trying to install Autodesk Products. You receive a message saying “An error occurred while preparing installation”.


  • Erratic internet connection.
  • Corrupted ODIS Installation.

Antivirus, Firewall, Proxy preventing ODIS rom accessing a component on the internet.


To resolve this issue

Option 1

  • Remove the Corrupted ODIS installation.
  1. Go to “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdODIS\V1”.
  2. Start “RemoveODIS.exe” as Administrator.
  3. Download the software using “Browser Download” or “Download Now” and perform the installation locally.

Option 2

  • Stop the ODIS installer from updating during install
  1. Start the DOS command as Administrator.
  2. Type “cd c:\ Autodesk\<Autodesk software folder>\” select the <Enter> key.

Type “setup.exe –noupdate” Select the <Enter> key.
