Alignments with No Tangents Have Gaps in Offset Existing Ground Profiles

Issue:

You have an alignment with no curves and it entirely build with line segments:

Alignment:

Existing Ground Profile with offsets (offsets are -28’, 0, 4’, and 10’):

Causes:

This is a defect with the processing of the Offsets when there is no curve or tangency.  Autodesk is aware of this issue and has logged it to development as defect CIVIL-41256.

Solution:

The easiest solution to fix this issue is to add free curve fillet to each intersection/change in direction on the alignment and set the radius to 0.01 ft. (so statistically an insignificant curve).  You add the fillet curve (and don’t trim), it will “heal” the offset profiles and will not affect stationing or other alignment properties.
