How to remove LMTOOLS

Issue:

The Autodesk Network License Manager (LMTOOLS) may need to be removed for many reasons. The most common are because LMTOOLS needs to be moved to a new server or your contract is switching to Single-user (aka Named User, Sign In) licenses.

LMTOOLS is used to create and configure a Windows Service for Autodesk network licenses. The Windows Service needs to be stopped and removed from the server. If it is not stopped and removed, the Windows will continue to run. If you are moving LMTOOLS to a new server, then having LMTOOLS still running on the old server along with the new server will create a license compliance issue.

Solution:

The instructions below can be used to remove the Autodesk Network License Manager (LMTOOLS). A shortcut for LMTOOLS will typically be found on the server Desktop. LMTOOLS can also be launched from the installation location. The default and most common location for LMTOOLS is C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager.

  1. Open LMTOOLS and go to the Start/Stop/Reread tab. Select the box for “Force Server Shutdown” and then select Stop Server.

  1. Once the service is stopped, select the Config Services tab. Select “Remove Service” and the Windows Service that was running your network Autodesk licenses will be removed from the server.

  1. Open Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall a program (type appwiz.cpl into Windows Search).

Find and select Autodesk Network License Manager. Select Uninstall.

The above process will stop the service created by LMTOOLS, remove the service, and uninstall the Autodesk Network License Manager (LMTOOLS).
