Inventor and the Electrical Catalog Browser Error

Shawn Heator

Issue:

The error below appears when you try to access Electrical Catalog Browser in Autodesk Inventor.

Select OK and then the Electrical Catalog Browser appears but there is nothing available to select in the browser.

Causes:

This dialog box occurs because you need to configure the Electrical Catalog Browser in Inventor with your AutoCAD Electrical database.

Solution:

  1. The first step is to access the AutoCAD Electrical Catalog Browser. Go to the Assemble tab and select the drop-down arrow under Place to select Electrical Catalog Browser.

  1. Dismiss the error dialog box that appears by selecting OK. The Electrical Catalog Browser dialog box will appear. Select the gear icon to setup the Electrical Catalog Browser.

  1. The Configure Database dialog appears. Select the Data source used for your AutoCAD Electrical. The default database type is Microsoft Access. Then select the 3 ellipses to have the Browse dialog box appear and navigate to your database on your computer or the network.

  1. The default database for AutoCAD Electrical is called default_cat.mdb but you can select any custom electrical database. Find and select your database and then select OK. You will now be able to link your Inventor designs and AutoCAD Electrical data.
