Recently an Autodesk Inventor 2017 user contacted us to ask why they were receiving an error message "File Copy Error on Save Access is denied." when they attempt to place a content center part into an Inventor assembly and then save it into BlueCielo's Meridian Vault.
This is the message that appears:
One possible solution that was explored was documented in Autodesk's technical article here: Error: "File Copy Error on Save: Access is denied" in Inventor that advises shutting down the Crypto Module in Kaspersky Security 10 for Windows Server or whitelist Inventor and the working directories in Kaspersky.
But, this instance of the error did not involve Kaspersky Security, but rather Palo Alto Networks Traps endpoint protection that had no similar feature.
The ultimate solution was to shut down a built-in viewer for documents that Meridian was running in their vault. When Inventor was uploading the temp file before renaming it to the normal ipt or iam file, the viewer was putting a lock on that file trying to open it.
Close the built-in viewer and all the issues went away.
Special thanks to Justin Herrin at AZZ Inc. for the solution details.
Note: As of March 31, 2020, when Inventor 2021 was released, Inventor 2017 is no longer supported by Autodesk. The information contained in this post may no longer be relevant and/or the necessary updates to the product may be inaccessible.
