Right before the Christmas holiday, Autodesk quietly released the Civil Engineering Data Translator for Autodesk Civil 3D 2019.
Getting it installed was the easy part… finding it was another story! Once I installed it, I went to the usual location within Civil 3D in Toolbox but it wasn’t there. To make a long story short, this cloud-based extension now runs outside of Civil 3D. You can find it in the Autodesk folder of your start menu:
Upon launching the extension, you are immediately prompted to log in with your Autodesk account:
The interface is fairly simple. Pick the input file, data translation type and select the upload button. Supported file types are .dwg, .dtm, .alg, .tin, and .gpk. Once uploaded, the files begin processing.
Once the translation is completed, the resulting files can be downloaded
This is a very useful tool when having to translate data between Autodesk and Bentley products. Hopefully, this will save you some time finding it!
