How to change the company logo on the Vault Thin Client for 2022

December 21, 2022 Bob Felton

Issue:

The Vault Thin Client (a browser-based means of access to Vault) was re-designed for the Vault 2022 model year. In the 2021 Thin Client and earlier it was possible to swap out the Autodesk logo for your company's logo.

But Autodesk has acknowledged the same capability doesn't yet exist for the 2022 Thin Client and has asked for feedback from Vault users who would like to see this capability restored, in the Vault Ideas Forum at Change the logo in the Thin Client.

Causes:

During the redesign of the 2022 Thin Client, the Autodesk logo images were changed to an SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) image format from a PNG (Portable Network Graphic) format. So you can't just rename your company logo with a .png file extension, named 'WebBanner_SignedIn.png' for example. The file paths have changed too.

Solution:

Although it's not supported, it is possible to convert your company logo.png to an SVG image file named ADSK_Vault_logo.svg and placed it into these folders on the Vault Server host.

Source files from the Vault Pro Server 2022 installation source (similar for Vault Basic and Workgroup):

  • C:\Autodesk\VPS2022_ENU_64bit_dlm\x64\AutodeskTC\PF\ADSK\VTC\Web\static\assets\darkBlue\
  • C:\Autodesk\VPS2022_ENU_64bit_dlm\x64\AutodeskTC\PF\ADSK\VTC\Web\static\assets\lightGray
  • C:\Autodesk\VPS2022_ENU_64bit_dlm\x64\AutodeskTC\PF\ADSK\VTC\Web\static\images

Destination folders, on the server:

  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Vault Thin Client 2022\Web\static\assets\darkBlue\ADSK_Vault_logo.svg
  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Vault Thin Client 2022\Web\static\assets\lightGray\ADSK_Vault_logo.svg
  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Vault Thin Client 2022\Web\static\images\ADSK_Vault_logo.svg

To convert a png of your company logo to a copy of ADSK_Vault_logo.svg you can use a free image converter called Inkscape that can be downloaded from here

Note: Another free online image converter from svg to png is Canva Image converter. But it needs an upgrade to Canva Pro for svg download from a png source file.

It's useful to match the pixel dimensions for the Autodesk logo so the finished design looks balanced.

Once the company logo is the way you need, then use File > Save a Copy to a convenient folder. Note: You won't be able to save directly to the folder for ADSK_Vault_logo.svg. Then rename it to ADSK_Vault_logo OEM.svg and paste your company's logo renamed to ADSK_Vault_logo.svg in this folder (the first of the three listed above, on the Vault server host, repeat for the other two folders).

  • C:\Autodesk\VPS2022_ENU_64bit_dlm\x64\AutodeskTC\PF\ADSK\VTC\Web\static\assets\darkBlue

To view the replaced logo, you may need to clear your browsing data and cached images and files for your browser, as shown for Chrome and Edge in this blog article.
