In this passage, I will be discussing Shoulder design.
If the typical cross section includes Shoulder design, ensuring that Superelevation values have been calculated and that settings are being called for, notice below the Shoulder is breaking at a constant -2.0% on both sides.
First, the Shoulder values must have been selected to Calculate in the Superelevation wizard: Shoulder Control window:
The calculated values can be seen in the Superelevation Tabular editor, may need to scroll to the right to see the “Shoulder” column values.
Then, make sure to set the Shoulder subassembly uses the correct value for the Left and Right sides:
With all the parameters in place, the Shoulder will tune into Pavement design slopes showing below-matching grade values to 4.0%
I hope you we able to pick up some tips in this Superelevation series:
• Part 1: The Alignment (set design speed and superelevation)
• Part 2: Configuring the Assembly & Subassembly
• Part 3: Spilling the Gutters
• Part 4: Rolling off the Shoulders
