AutoCAD: Dimension length is not equal when adding combined Dimensions compared to the overall value

Issue:

AutoCAD: Dimension length is not equal when adding combined Dimensions compared to the overall value.

Causes:

This can happen if you have the rounding factor set to round Dimensions down. The Precision can also affect this.

 

This may due to the overall Dimension rounding down and then when the shorter Dimensions are used, they do not round down as a result of the Dimension placement. When you add the shorter Dimensions, they add up to more than the rounded down overall Dimension.

Solution:

There are really 2 functional answers to this issue.

 

  • Create a Dimension Style for each type of Dimension. One that does not have rounding for the short Dimensions. The other that is set as before.
  • Turn the rounding off so the detailed Dimension can be displayed.
