FAQ: IMAGINiT Utilities for Civil 3D

IMAGINiT Technologies

IMAGINiT Utilities for Civil 3D is a set of tools that help civil engineers and surveyors get more from their Autodesk Civil 3D software. Here are answers to frequently asked questions about the toolset.

Q: What licensing options are available for the IMAGINiT Utilities for Civil 3D?

A: IMAGINiT offers two licensing options:

  1. Stand Alone: This option authorizes and activates the application to a specific machine. It works similarly to Autodesk's stand alone activations.
  2. Named User: This is a variation of the standard FLEXlm floating license. This option requires that an options file be created for the license server and the administrator keep a list of windows user IDs that can run the software. This list can be changed at any time, however, FLEXlm will not recognize the changes for 5 hours. In this way, the license is locked to the user name, rather than the user's hardware. The number of named users cannot exceed the number of licenses for IMAGINiT Utilities for Civil 3D.

Q: Do I need to have Google Earth installed prior to using the Google utilities?

A: No, Google Earth is not required to run IMAGINiT Utilities for Civil 3D. When the IMPORT FROM GOOGLE command is run, a dialog box will appear and allow you to search for a location.

Q: Can imagery imported from the IMAGINiT utilities be printed from inside Civil 3D?

A: Yes, this imagery is capable of being plotted.

Q: Is it possible to get higher resolution imagery?

A: Unfortunately, the 640 x 480 resolution image is currently the best resolution available. This is a limitation imposed by Google.

Q: Is it possible to speed up the process of acquiring terrain data?

A: the speed of terrain data acquisition is dependent on several factors, including the speed of the user's internet connection. Other factors include a data transfer threshold set by Google, as well as the load on the Google servers at the time of the request.

Q: In the Point Station Report Utility, is it possible to control units of the output?

A: Yes, individual control of all the report items is possible. The application looks at the units defined in the drawing's ambient settings and bases the report accordingly.

Q: Why do pipe and structure rules automatically reapply at the completion of any of the gravity pipes commands?

A: The 2019 and previous versions of the Utilities would prompt to reapply the rules at the completion of the command. In the 2020 version we streamlined this behavior and added an entry in the IMAGINiT Options dialog box. To make the 2020 version work like the previous versions, set the "Apply Rules" option to "Prompt".
