The scenario covered here sample lines have been created (interval of 50), section views produced with matching sheets.
Then an additional section then added the previously created Sample Line Group at station 9+80.76.
Here, a random station location is used. For real world project and/or design needs will dictate why a new sample is needed: high/low point, critical location, drainage, entrance, etc.
THE ISSUE:
The newly created sample line causes a need to update the already created section view group.
If the “Update” the section views command is used, from the onscreen right click menu or the contextual ribbon > Modify View panel to resort, it will NOT work.
Manually moving the grids around is an option, but NOT the best method. Let’s explore some automation here and see what built in tools Civil 3D has in store for us.
THE SOLUTION:
The command that will be used is “Move to Section View Group”, there are two quick methods to access the command:
- If the section view is in model space > select the new section view > right click > select Move to Section View Group or from the Contextual ribbon > Modify View panel
- The command can also be found from the TOOLSPACE > Prospector tab > Alignment > Sample Line Group > Section View Group > Move to Section View Group
The command then prompts users to select the destination Section View Group.
The section view is then immediately moved into the group and section views are sorted. Notice the image below the grid at station 9+80.76 now added to the group layout.
I hope this helps you add additional cross section to your sheets without causing any extra work. For more tips like this visit our main Civil Solutions Support page at:
